Music

The Buchan Music Department is a busy and thriving department that is renowned on the Isle of Man.  Pupils have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments and join choirs and ensembles as well as having stimulating class lessons.  We provide a comprehensive Music education which begins in the Nursery School and continues through Buchan Pre-Prep and Prep Departments and on to King William's College.

The Music Department consists of three full-time teachers including the Director of Music, a music coordinator, music assistant and a team of peripatetic teachers who offer lessons in piano, singing, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, viola, cello, cornet, trumpet, euphonium and percussion.

There are some instruments available for hire if needed.

Tuition fees are charged termly with an average of ten 30 minute lessons per term.  King William's College is a centre for ABRSM practical examinations and each term pupils take exams up to Grade 5 standard.

Drama

The Buchan School Drama thrives on enthusiasm and inventiveness. Each form follows a specifically designed curriculum linked to Speaking and Listening in the Literacy Strategy to involve them fully in all aspects of acting, directing and performing to the highest of standards.

All pupils learn improvisation, scriptwork, public speaking or performance poetry, mime, maskwork, speech, acting skills, movement and produce a mini-performance each drama session.   Pupils are at all times encouraged to develop their confidence, latent talents and creativity skills to the fullest in a positive and nurturing environment.

The Drama club is an extra-curricular activity which teaches professional theatre skills. It is held on a bi-annual rotation with Art Club.

Form 4 pupils participate in a Leavers’ Production designed to showcase their acting, singing, dancing and musical talents.
