In early July, a team from the Buchan School travelled to the National Tag Rugby Finals at Rugby School in Warwickshire. Out of an initial entry of over 3,000 schools, the final 20 compete each year at the famous school, with the top two teams on the day progressing to Twickenham, where the final is played in front of 85,000 people just before an England Autumn International match.
After the morning's matches, Buchan, as one of the top ten schools, progressed to the afternoon competition. This was played off in two Pools of five teams, with the winners of each pool progressing to Twickenham for the final. Going into their final match (just 6 mins of rugby), Buchan needed to win by two tries to make it to the hallowed turf of England's H.Q., but were unfortunately beaten by last year's tournament winners from Shropshire. They finished joint second in their group to lay claim to being one of the top 4 or 5 schools in the country.
Each school at the finals represented an international rugby team and we were asked to represent Scotland - hence the kilt in the attached photo!
