The Buchan School was very pleased to welcome another touring team to play against on the sports field last week. Rydal Penrhos are a school based in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, and this is their third visit to the Island. For our under 11 netballers, this was to be good preparation for the upcoming tour to Nottinghamshire where they are to play in the Independent Association of Prep. Schools Regional qualifying round.
Buchan girls, looking very smart in their new kit, went out strongly from the whistle gaining a majority of the possession. However, good defensive play from Rydal ensured we didn't score our first goal until over four minutes had passed. Once the home team had taken the lead, they soon settled and ended the first quarter 5 - 0 ahead. Team changes were then made and the girls went out determined to increase their lead. By half time the score was 11 - 0. Rydal then brought on some of their younger touring players who performed exceptionally well and this will surely prove to be good experience for them for next year. For the remainder of the game, Buchan continued to make some impressive interceptions and brought the ball down the court with speed and accuracy. The final score was 19 - 0 to the Buchan.
A big thank you to Rydal for making the visit to us and providing us with some good competition before going on tour. Congratulations also go out to 10 of the girls from Buchan who went on to play in the Island Under 11 netball squad on Sunday. This is the first time the Isle of Man has ever had a representative side for this age group. They also went on to beat Rydal 16 - 5. Two great results! Well done girls and thank you to all the mums and dads for supporting the girls and assisting with refreshments.
