Visit of Kirkham Grammar Junior School

Under 11 Netball V Kirkham Grammar
After a very close game with this touring team last year, the Buchan girls knew they needed to step up their game and pull together as a team.  A shaky start by both teams left the first 3 minutes of the game without any score; however, Buchan soon settled and scored the first goal of the game.  They then continued to turn the ball over, all working hard to make interceptions and deliver the ball to the shooting duo so as to give them every opportunity to increase the score line, which they did with ease and accuracy.

At quarter time after 10 minutes the score was 6-0 to Buchan.  Team changes were made at each interval resulting in many Buchan girls playing out of position, yet they still continued to perform with the same determination and drive that they had started with.  Despite the increasing score line, Kirkham were also able to move the ball with speed down the court and kept the pressure on Buchan throughout.

The final score of 24-0 to Buchan is fully representative of the hard work that the girls have put into playing and developing their game since they were in Form 1!  Well done girls-a great result.  Let's build on this performance for the IPAS National Qualifying Competition in March.

On Monday, our u/11 boys played Kirkham Grammer at A and B team level at football and ran out winners by 4 goals to nil and by 10 goals to 1 respectively.  Kirkham however are better known for their rugby prowess and our boys knew that a much tougher contest lay in store the following day when the two schools clashed at rugby.  Last year, Buchan narrowly won the rugby match and were the first recipients of the Buchan Bear which was tied to the crossbar during the match and presented to our captain for the school to retain for a year.  With the Bear again attached to the crossbar, it was not long before sustained Kirkham pressure resulted in a try, which was converted to make the score 7-0.  Amazingly, the score remained the same until 5 minutes from full time, when Oliver  crossed the line for a try which was converted by Bevan  to level the scores.  On the last play of the game, Oliver capped a Man of the Match performance by scoring again, and ensuring that the Bear would remain on the Island for at least one more year.  Bevan  again converted to make the final score-
