When you apply for a job nowadays you normally receive in the application pack a variety of information: company literature, job description and a list of personal qualities. And when you read down that list of personal qualities you find that they have been categorised as either 'desirable' or 'essential'. One of those essential qualities is, sometimes, a sense of humour. I have always liked those jokes that have a double meaning to them - one that you're not expecting.

November has proven to be a rather exciting month for the pupils and staff at Buchan. To be more specific, at 9.48am precisely on the 18th November, the school became part of a global relay when it welcomed the arrival of the 'Queen's Baton'.

In our final week of this half term we celebrated a wonderful Harvest Festival service held at the Chapel, King William's College. This year we enjoyed a selection of songs and readings from Pre.Prep and Prep pupils. Our organist ended the service with a particularly jaunty version of 'I have seen the golden sunshine' and of course accompanied by lots of clapping hands, not all completely synchronised! Fortunately, the weather too matched the choice of songs and we all arrived in glorious sunshine which certainly added to the joy of the occasion.

At the end of last week, I returned from the annual IAPs Conference which was held this year in Jersey. The title for the conference was 'Leadership in challenging times' and related perhaps in part to the impact the 'credit crunch' was making in the Independent sector.
