There is great excitement among the children at the Buchan School as one of their favourite events of the year approaches! March 12th will see the annual Buchan Spring Fair. This year it will start at 3:40 pm after the end of the school day, and finish around 5:30pm.

The Buchan pupils were very moved by the plight of the people of Haiti after the recent earthquake and wanted to help. Mrs. Cottier helped the Prep department pupils to make collecting boxes which they took home and filled with small change; this raised £753. A former parent, Mrs. Blackwell, suggested a Hike for Haiti; this involved every child in the school, and most of the teachers, jogging around the grounds (a distance of 1100 miles, chosen because the coastline of Haiti is 1100 miles). This Hike raised £494.

On Wednesday 24th February, the IOM National Tag Rugby finals were held at the NSC, Douglas. The top 2 teams from each of the area tournaments (north, south, east and west) were present and, as Buchan were the winners and runners-up of the Southern Schools' tournament, we were represented by two teams. Both teams played tremendously well against some very strong opposition with our B team finishing 5th out of the original 32 teams and our A team winning all 5 of their matches to retain the title of Isle of Man Tag Rugby Champions.

Felix gave a wonderful demonstration to the island primary and secondary staff at the music centre in Douglas on Wednesday 3 February. We were given a djembe drum each and we all learnt how to produce the various sounds and rhythms. Some were better than others but we all had to listen and keep together. Felix had us playing different rhythms at the same time and even doing demonstrations on our own. It was great fun but physically tiring.
